For example, I can't condone Palestinian suicide bombers, but then I find myself thinking, 'okay, but how DO you fight a war against an opponent who is much more powerful and much more equipped'. I empathise with the Israeli sentiments regarding their homelands, but what about those who made their homes there in their absence? In some ways the return has a sense of rightness about it. In other ways it was an arbitrary decision that was always going to result in the endless war now raging. No matter how I approach the subject, I find myself at a loss for any realistic solution. I find this so complicated that it’s hard to give any opinion that I can’t myself contradict a while later. I had family members read them too as I am sometimes at a loss to answer their questions regarding this conflict. Regarding who is most at fault or how the conflict is being reported etc. the words self defence come to the fore. I suppose if you likened the situation to a woman suffering domestic violence it would not be too far fetched. She may suffer years of abuse and violent treatment before things just get too much for her. She may snap one day and say enough is enough and take a gun and shoot her husband dead. She would then find that she was the one on trial for committing such a terrible crime. The other similarity is that there are absoluteley no winners in such a situation. History shows that religion has a HELL of a lot to answer for. As for all those poor souls on both sides who live in constant fear of themselves or their loved ones being blown to bits at any given second-Let us Pray!
