Commitment

Yeah I make it no secret that I’m vegan.
And some carnivores look at me funny, but that’s because they don’t realize what commitment is about.

I was sent an article today about my favourite carnivorous recipe, and I love it because it’s just so committed to eating as many different animals in one sitting.

I’m talking about a variation of the famous “Turducken”.

Yes, the Turducken. Sliced duck which is stuffed inside a chicken which is then stuffed inside a turkey, and roasted for many, many hours.

This recipe shows nothing but complete commitment to just getting the most astonishing amount of different animals all in the one dish, and then eating them.

It truly is a culinary achievement.

It is called “The True Love Roast” and has a different bird for each of the twelve days of Christmas.

In fact it has forty-eight different animals, consisting of twelve entirely different breeds of bird.
It weighs nearly fifty-seven kilograms and has fifty-thousand calories.

Now THAT’s commitment to eating animal, and I have no choice but to marvel at it.

More here.

Truly amazing.
Start slicing now, you might just get it ready in time for the big day.

Don’t get me wrong, I love taking photos.
In fact, you could say that it’s a passion of mine.

I also appreciate a great photo, and even a great photo challenge.

Having said that,
this is some seriously fucked up shit right here.

Those crazy Russians..

At last.

After a few years of seeing post-punk, semi-new-wave, shoe-gazing synth-fingering bands around the traps, after a few years of watching every second band want to be either Gang of Four or Joy Division, last night I saw something different.
No, it was not one of those bands where the lead singer thinks he’s that guy from The Clash (which is almost all of them).

Last night I saw a fabulous band called The Scare.
A furious, noisy ball of rock-n-roll that you should really see before they fall apart into drug and alcohol-fueled self-destruction.
Which is a good thing.
Bands that are on the path to demise are always great.
Finally, a lead singer with the cocky arrogant energy that says “I’m better than everyone in the room”, but in a way that the audience responds with energy that says “Yes you are, and we love it”.

The singer mixes a bit of Iggy Pop, and a lot of early Michael Hutchence into what’s a brilliantly delivered performance.
Yes, Hutchence. With the fringe, and the bent-over singing and everything. And the fringe-flicking. And the pashing of guys in the crowd. Ok, so Hutch didn’t do that, but jeepers it was a good gig.

Yes! Finally a band that puts on a performance!

The songs were awesome.
The band were great.
Just gangly enough, with a bit of dirt in the guitars.

Of course, the jeans were super-tight all ’round, and some sleeveless denim jackets to show off the toughy stickers..

Thank you Mel for the gift you gave me of The Scare.
Can’t wait to see their next gig!

Wes Anderson

It’s quite simple.
When I grow up, I want to be in a Wes Anderson film.

In fact, as some people dress them selves and style them selves after their favourite pop stars and actors and the like, I think I am going to try and style my entire life like a Wes Anderson movie.

I will wear lots of turtle-necked clothing, fantastic vintage sunglasses, and have fabulously matched luggage.

I will stay for months on end in exotic French hotels and read lots and lots of books that aren’t comics.

Better yet, I will have Bill Murray somehow come in to my life and play the role of my benefactor/nemesis/guiding force, and Owen Wilson will somehow mysteriously always be there, in trouble, ready for me to bail him and his scruffy-haired self out of whatever predicament he is in.

I will also not ever walk between rooms, I will merely glide camera right or left to arrive in another place.

Oh gosh.

The Darjeeling Limited is hands down my favourite film this year.
