Recently, as you know, I went to Bali to Surf for a week.
Everyone I met cautioned me to “be careful, they have bombings there!”.
The DAFT smart traveller website said “seriously reconsider all non-essential travel to Indonesia including Bali”.
So many people are too afraid to travel to that beautiful, peaceful place.
I was in the UK last week for a full tilt, kilts on, highland wedding in Scotland. The wedding was awesome and I felt like Connor McLeod.
While I was there,
There was a major terrorist incident for three consecutive days that I was there, and the airport that I flew in and out of was car bombed, and was still smoking when I flew out of there..
The country went in to lockdown and was on the highest threat level that they have.
They arrested the terrorists only a few kilometres from where I was staying.
Now,
Will everyone I know warn me to not travel to the UK?
Will the DFAT website say “seriously consider not travelling”?
I doubt it.

I am planning to go to Bali over the Xmas break, and it’s really exhausting trying to tell people that I could die in any country, not just there.
I could get hit by a bus tomorrow.
All I want to do is live my life, if I die tomorrow, I want it to have been a good one.
The ignorance of some people astounds me.

I like the renaming of them to the DAFT department. Suitably fitting I think.
They don’t issue warnings against travelling to the UK or America or any other white country that has had proportionately the same amount of ‘terrorist’ attacks as Indonesia because we’re supposed to be able to trust our Christian white brethren. And the only people who would consider not flying to Bali because of travel warnings are the ones who also believe ‘the faces of evil’ are suddenly going to blow up Melbourne – as if Australia’s made a jot of difference to the world in the last 200 years.
DAFT department indeed! Also nice to see a celebrity openly rejecting this nonsense.
I can’t belive you were in Scotland for a wedding at the same time that I was in Scotland for a wedding, if only it had been the same one!
The terrorist attacts were scary, especially as they arrested two of the suspects near my house.
It was also scary that they were all doctors, people that you trust with your life and to think they can just turn round and try to kill lots of people is not nice.
Thank you Andrew for still believing that Bali is still as magical as before..
It still antonishes me everytime i go back there..
