There is no justification for this, and these groups are not honouring their religion by acting like this. However the majority of Muslims did not act this way, and do deserve understanding. However, what is worse than the cartoons originally being published, is that since this whole thing began, many more papers around the world have published them, simply to prove that they have a right to freedom of speech. I can't understand this. I believe in freedom of speech, but it only goes so far. As a person you should realise that there is nothing to be gained from publishing something that benefits nobody, and hurts many. That's just common sense. That is truly a great way to live. “In your anger do not sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still.” Being misunderstood has a strange way of morphing into anger and violence. I just feel like the world is in a state of adolesence. It feels like we are all at high school, and involved in the "he said she saids" that often comes with being immature and oblivious. The new kids at school, the ones who are different, or choose to hold different beliefs than the majority, are being wedgied behind the gym. Last year I studied a great course at Uni which look at the world since the 1940s, and really honed in on the Middle East, with specific attention to their religion and their oil supply. So many aspects of the Muslim faith and the Middle East have been misrepresented in the media. This is why it is important to remain informed about current affairs. Having an opinion is our god given right, however, having all the information to form that opinion and create a solid argument is sometimes difficult. Another thing you should do is watch OUTFOXED. It is pretty frightening. As a society, we have been told to trust the news service and what they tell us... but there are some corrupt buggers out there, who are controlling what we know and when we know it. As for the cartoon... RESPECT is the order of the day. Respect for other human beings and their beliefs, is a virtue. It just is mind boggling that we still think of those outside of ourselves as OTHER. When, if we search deeply, those around us are reflections of a love we are all apart of. People around him crying, and wailing, police everywhere. The motorcycle in pieces, sprawled across the ashphalt. What goes on after we die? Is it anger? Is it hatred? No. It is love. In that hearts of the people who loved us. The people who treasured us. I cried last night when I got home, thinking of his parents, his family and friends. I think death is meant to hurt, and be painful, so we can take stock and realise what is important in our lives. And that, truly is, LOVE. For ourselves, for one another, for our partner, for our community, for our world. WHY ARE WE IN A CONSTANT STATE OF STRUGGLE? Why are we in constant logger heads with one another? Why are our hearts so hard, and our heads so full of rage and anger? Life can be utopic... if only we use the energy we fuel anger and hatred with, and morph it into love and understanding. I think muslims have every right to be feeling offended and angry. For the past few years they've constantly been associated with terrorism, and now this has been publicly linked with their religious prophet. It's not surprising that vast majority of innocent muslims who have nothing to do with terrorism are sick of being associated with it and attacked for it. For the other side, all I can say is that maybe people forget that muslims are not just a group of terrorist masterminds who hide out in caves on the other side of the world, but are real, good people, just like anyone else, who share the world with us. This is not an excuse however, I think everyone needs to remember this before they comment on muslims in the context of terrorism. Ok, I’m not going to pretend I completely understand the whole thing, but I have tried to see both sides of it. I think muslims have every right to be feeling offended and angry. Its one thing to have the cartoons on a personal blog and completely another to publish them in a newspaper. In regards to the Australian newspapers who published the cartoons under the guise of "Freedom of speech" they should be ashamed of themselves. Australia has no bill of rights which means we have no right to freedom of speech, the Sedition laws are a good example of this. We are a multicultural country and should consider more carefully what is published. How would we react to a cartoon whose subject is violence against women, children or gays?
