Thanks for all the lovely emails about my hand, bless! I’m much better thanks. Some of the emails I get though, really concern me. They read somewhat like this..

And so on.
I love that you’re taking time to write, but learn to spell!!
(cue english teacher voice here) Spelling and grammar, especially written spelling and grammar, are so very important. Without it, people can dismiss you instantly, regardless of what you have to say.
You could have found a way that men and women, blacks and whites, straights and gays, Muslims and Christians, even dogs and cats could live on this earth in peace for all of eternity, however – if you have spelt it wrongly, people will write you off and dismiss your brilliant ideas quicker than you can say, “heeeps devo!!”.
Here endeth the lesson.

Hey folks. Thanks for all the emails written in about my last post. You had some interesting responses. I read them all, and thanks for even bothering to check in and read what I wrote!
I’ve been running like a freak.. Hours and hours on the beach, trying to get my cardio-vascular system all tip top before I go into surgery on Tuesday to get this titanium plate out of my left hand. It’s messing with the way I play bass and piano, so it’s got to go.
A bit worried about the anaesthetic though. It’s like the most amount of drugs you can ever take in your life all at once. You basically come within centimetres of death, to the point that they have to breathe for you and make sure your heart keeps going while they slice you open. Think about taking enough drugs to stop you breathing, then think about the comedown. Crikey. I went and bought a bunch of DVDs today in prep for my couch time.
So yeah, running. For hours at a time. I love it. I’ve been listening to a few albums and I can only say a few things about music right now..
The Flaming Lips are your gods. Bow down before their songwriting, production, stage show and philosophy. Wayne Coyne is genius. Jim bought me the documentary about their carrer, it’s called The Fearless Freaks. Watch it. Learn. Enjoy. I love that band..
Shihad Rule the universe of rock. Take every one of those tatt-in-a-can emo shmoof core bands who whine about how girls don’t like them, or how tough it is to be fifteen (especially when they’re twenty-eight and cashing up) and put it aside so you can then listen to the new Shihad record. Then go listen to their live album. Then listen to them again while playing air guitar in front of the bedroom mirror like you’re Johnny Toogood. They will make your life better.
Not that there’s anything wrong with getting into those bands that are just SO sincere about everything, I’m sure some of those songs really connect with some people about times in their life, helping folks get through a rough spot and that’s cool, that’s what music’s about..
However, if your “black t-shirt wearing, shoe staring, cynical look at everything in the world, writing angsty, “nobody knows my pain” poetry on black paper with black pen (thanks hank), listening to songs about how tough life is and then fighting arguments with your parents while only speaking in lyrics from Dashboard Confessional songs” phase lasts any longer than six months.. Think about taking up a hobby, a sport, or getting a girlfriend or boyfriend. Life’s really quite great, and getting your self-indulgent phase out of the way as early as possible will only make sure you’re on the way to better relationships with everyone in your universe sooner..
Bill Hicks is dead. However, he left us with a few amazing pieces of work. I just finished his biography, and have listened to his stand up for years now.. He was a true genius. Listen to the master, listen to Bill.
Enjoy whatever you do today, you only have today to enjoy it. I miss not being on [v], back next week, complete with busted hand and everything.
